- Discuss your favorite thing. Why did u choose this? My favorite this was making a scratch rocket and scratch motor because it was my very first time doing this type of project. I enjoyed it because i like working on hands on projects and i also like building things.
- When were you most curious? I was most curious when we had to plan our motor because i didn't really know how i should make my motor so it can work well for my scratch rocket.
- When were you least curious? I was least curious when we were starting the semester because I didn't really think we were going to do a rocketry project.
- How has this semester helped you for the next and beyond? This has helped me alot because it has showed me that if i keep everything on track i can finish everything on time and be done with everything.
- Well ill miss this chemistry class and ill miss doing this project.

1)What is it going to look like?
My partner and I decided on making a medium sized rocket so it won't be too big or too heavy for the small motor so we are going to make everything out of some materials that aren't so heavy. 2)Can we put our ideas on paper? Our rocket is going to be 24' inches for the length body of the rocket body and the width is 1.80' inches which we are going to make out of brown thick paper. The nose cone is being made out of balsa wood and the dimensions for it are 8' inches for the length and the width is 1.79' inches. The fins are going going to be made out of balsa wood also and the measurements are 4' inches for the width and the length is 8' inches. For the parachute we used the parachutes that come with the little toy soldiers and we taped two of the parachutes together so it would be a big rectangle. 3)How are we going to make this happen? My partner and I decided on making our rocket body by using a pvc pipe and cutting out strips of brown thick paper then we are going to wrap the layers around the pvc pipe at an angle and put wood glue on each layer so it would stay together and so it could be a strong durable tube for the rocket body. For the fins we are going to use balsa wood. We had trouble choosing what design we want for our fins but then we just figured out on just making simple fins the also can have the rocket stand. For the nose cone we also used balsa wood but it was a cube of balsa wood i had to cut it down to the size i wanted it then i used a sander to shape the nose cone to the shape and size that we wanted the nose cone to be. I've seen many types of rocks but not this type of rocks that are like veins in water. This type of rock is pretty unique to see. Its pretty cool when you watch it being created. A question that i had during the experiment was that why did it look like veins. Yes, we got desirable results because the experiment worked out well. I worked well I contributed during the lab. This experiment was a guided activity we worked on it with our teacher. We all worked well we payed attention on what was going on in this lab. Rocket Motor Launch Name: Bijan Siry, Jesus Lopez Fuel:Black Powder Nozzle: 3/16” Core: End Burner Thrust Curve Total burn time: 7.93 sec. Total thrust in g: 13785 We started off with planing how our test motor was going to work. The type of fuel we chose to use in our motor was black powder. We chose this because the black powder because it will burn faster but have more thrust than sugar. For the nozzle we chose a diameter of 3/16. This is because the smaller the diameter is the more pressure it will have. For the core we chose on having an end burner because it will burn for longer. When i launched my motor it had alot of thrust in the begining and then it had alittle bit of thrust. It doesnt burn as much because it is burning less surface area of fuel in the motor. Why did my motor not burn as well as the other motors we tested. I did not get the desirable trust i wanted but i made a great end burner motor. To get the result i wanted i had to create a core burner core in my motor. I worked with bijan on this project. We worked well together we communicated with each other and we worked together on planning the motor.
I enjoyed the Flame Test so much because it seemed almost magical! It left me in awe during the process of the experiment. The flame test turned out well because we saw different colors of the flame. There was a tube on the top of the bunsen burner and colorful flames would come out of the tube. The colors changed when we placed the substance over the flame. There were some curiosities that I developed while I saw the experiment being presented. I questioned myself why the flame turned colors? That was so rad. Another question that I had was what other substances we could use to change the color scheme. I didn’t do any further investigation into the science behind things but now I am curious how the flames changed colors. Why did that happen? With this in mind I will do some research to find out more about how this happens.This happens because each element has a different electron configuration. When you add energy such as heat the electron moves to a new orbit and energy with a specific wavelength is released. This wavelength determines a specific color. The results we achieved were good because we were able to follow the correct process and I think that I assisted successfully while we performed the activity.
I worked with the rest of the class on this lab during the experiment. and I think our group did a good job because we an interest in the activity. I was very happy to contribute to the group by being a good observer and paid attention. If I could do this again I would attempt to volunteer to do the activity rather than being the observer. I would experiment with other chemicals and see what the reactions would be during the process of the activity. I would work with bijan and mayra if I were able to do this lab again because we communicate with each other great and we work well together. The beauty of this experiment was looking at the different reactions the chemicals have on the flame. Next time i would love to experiment with other chemicals.
